About Me

Katya Alexander

I'm Katya Alexander, an award-winning filmmaker and producer who’s always known I wanted to tell stories through film. My career has taken me across genres and around the world, from filming in Zambia—where I carried water from a well and held a broken lens together—to living on a boat for 10 days, battling seasickness and rationing supplies, to filming 8 Billion Angels (Abramorama and PBS) across India, Japan, and the U.S. Touring with the band Vundabar added another layer, with its whirlwind of new cities and time zones each day.

But beyond the adventure, my passion for film is rooted in a love for comedy and admiration for filmmakers like Shauna Robertson (Elf, Superbad, Anchorman). I aspire to define comedy for this generation as she did in the early 2000s. Working with National Lampoon allowed me to learn from the best and connect with talented creatives who are now part of my filmmaking team. After Lampoon, my film Pretty Problems premiered at SXSW in 2022, won the Audience Award, and was acquired by IFC for theatrical distribution and was one of the top trending films on Hulu for 14 weeks.

In recent years, I’ve had the privilege to work with cutting-edge technology, including at the Las Vegas Sphere, where I collaborated with teams developing new camera systems, post-production workflows, and theatrical technology that landed Sphere on the cover of TIME Magazine in 2023. I’ve also partnered with NASA, deploying advanced cameras into space and filming in remote locations like Antarctica.

As a producer, I focus on finding the heart of each project, amplifying it, and creating a positive set environment where cast and crew feel supported. My mission is to improve the industry for those working in it, while bringing compelling stories to life.

Currently, I'm hosting two podcasts: Reel Intelligence, where I interview top figures in AI about its role in the film industry, and Pocket Change Films, a guide for creating no-budget projects. Through these, I hope to share insights, inspire new creators, and continue my commitment to storytelling. I want to inspire the new generations to get into film and tell their stories.
